The University of Georgia will hold a public hearing Monday on the proposed redevelopment of the Legion Pool Complex.
In September, the university announced its plans to remove the pool and replace it with a green space, an amphitheater and parking. The goal is to create a more functional space for students. UGA reports that the pool is underutilized by students and loses nearly $90,000 per year.
Following the announcement, Friends of Legion Pool started an online petition which has reached almost 2,000 signatures. It calls on UGA to open the pool for longer, rather than demolish the space.
The hearing will be held at 5:30 p.m. on Monday in the auditorium in the Complex Carbohydrate Research Center at 315 Riverbend Road, Athens, Georgia.
