DAVENPORT, Iowa (KCRG) - The Iowa Supreme Court ruled the state auditor’s office can represent itself in an upcoming court case related to an investigation into the city of Davenport.
Iowa State Auditor Rob Sand said the city paid nearly $2 million to three former employees. Sand said he is investigating those payments and wants access to recordings of private city council discussions.
But the Iowa Attorney General’s Office refused to pursue arguments that the Auditor should have access to attorney-client documents from the city, saying those privileged communications are “vital” to the state’s interests.
The Auditor’s Office argued that created a conflict of interest for the Attorney General, prioritizing the needs of other agencies over that of the Auditor.
