RICHMOND, Ky. (WKYT) - A Richmond mother was arrested Wednesday after police say she abandoned her one-year-old child for nearly two hours, leaving a note saying she no longer wanted to be a mother.

Richmond Police identified the mother as Sarah Vicker. She was charged with criminal abuse and abandonment of a minor after officers found her baby alone in a playpen in her home.

“They did find a one-year-old child left in this person’s apartment that had just been abandoned. The child was alone in a playpen along with a note saying that the mother had intended to leave,” said Makenzie Davis, executive assistant with Richmond Police.

Police say they received a report Wednesday afternoon from a local church about a woman abandoning her child. Vicker had walked more than a mile to the church,
