Kenner police halted traffic on West Esplanade Avenue Friday afternoon so U.S. Border Patrol Commander Gregory Bovino and his agents could separate from a caravan of cars following them.
Bovino applauded Police Chief Keith Conley and his department on X, formerly known as Twitter, for blocking traffic, calling it "the first that has ever happened by a state or local (agency)."
At the blockade, cars honked their horns and hoisted phones out to film as they stopped on West Esplanade near Esplanade Mall.
Bovino had been conducting operations throughout Kenner on Friday, with a trail of cars following him to each location. Just before the blockade, he and other agents had walked up and down Martinique Avenue in search of a suspect, which drew a crowd of local residents who blew whistles, re
