KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Knox County Schools is celebrating significant progress after moving up in the state’s accountability rankings , three years after landing in the bottom 5% of districts in Tennessee.

This year, the district’s more than 90 schools and nearly 60,000 students earned an “advancing” designation — the second-highest tier. In 2022, Knox County received its lowest rating, “needs improvement.” The district climbed to “satisfactory” over the last two years before reaching the advancing level.

The ratings are based on a range of statewide data points. Superintendent Jon Rysewyk said the new designation shows their priorities are paying off.
