An industrial accident claimed the life of a male worker at a radio tower in Atlantic City Thursday, Dec. 4, authorities said.

Three men were working near the top of the roughly 310-foot structure near the 300 block of Murray Avenue in Venice Park when the tower partially collapsed around 4:30 p.m., local officials said. A large section fell to the ground, while another piece remains suspended near the top of the structure. The other two workers were not seriously injured.

Atlantic City police established a perimeter at the site until the hanging section can be safely secured and removed, officials said.

Dozens of firefighters, police officers, and EMS personnel worked for about 90 minutes to lower all three men from the structure.

Investigators said the exact nature of the worker’s injuries remains unclear. The investigation is ongoing, and there is no danger to the public.

“We are asking residents of Venice Park to use caution when in the area and respect the ACPD’s perimeter,” said Public Safety Director Sean Riggin. “We are working diligently to resolve this issue as soon as possible.”
