MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) - On this day in 1996, WMTV hosted our first ever Share Your Holidays event.

Share Your Holidays started as a one-day food drive in a grocery store parking lot, and has grown every year since.

Former WMTV anchor Mike McKinney created the event, inspired to help those in need from his own experience of growing up hungry.

The Wisconsin Army National Guard was also involved in our first campaign, and has been involved ever since.

Mike Hart, a Wisconsin Army National Guardsman, co-founded the event with McKinney.

In our first year, WMTV’s Share Your Holidays raised 50,000 meals-around $7,000.

30 years later, Share Your Holidays gets bigger and better each year.
