Industry in Southern Ontario will get more than $200 million to help supply the defence sector as the national spike in military spending may filter to London and region manufacturers.

FedDev Ontario, the federal agency which supports business in Southern Ontario, pledged on Friday the money will go to businesses that want to become defence sector suppliers, as well as to support existing ones.

“The requirements for being a supplier in defence are daunting. This will help businesses decide what path they want to take. It looks like good support,” said Ben Whitney, president of Armo Tool and Abuma Manufacturing.

“Any support is welcome. I think we will see a lot of (defence sector) announcements in the next few months. It’s exciting to see what they will be.”
