FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WPTA) - Fort Wayne fire crews braved the extreme cold on Friday, fighting a house fire on John St near Weisser Park.
No one was at the home at the time of the fire, and no one got hurt, according to the Fort Wayne Fire Department.
Firefighters say Friday’s conditions made getting to the home a challenge because the entire street leading to the house was covered in ice.
FWFD Assistant Chief Jonathan Flickinger says the cold doesn’t just slow crews down; it also threatens their equipment.
“We’ve got a lot of challenges when we’re dealing with the weather and the environment right now, just even getting to where this house is. If you look back on the street, it’s just nothing but pure ice. So, you have to be extremely careful.” Jonathan Flickinger.
