BATAVIA — The large fire that destroyed a Pike Road residence this week began with the wood burning furnace/chimney located in the basement, Genesee County Office of Emergency Management Coordinator Tim Yaeger said Friday.

The cause of Tuesday’s blaze at 3589 Pike Rd. was undetermined as of Friday morning. The investigation continues, Yaeger said, noting the house is a wood-frame home.
