SHREVEPORT, La. — Seventy years ago today, Rosa Parks sat on a Montgomery bus in protest of segregation, sparking a pivotal moment in the civil rights movement.

On Thursday, the MLK Neighborhood Association and SporTran honored Parks with an event called "A Legacy in Motion". Community leaders, including former Mayor Cedric Glover, reflected on her life and unveiled a special tribute in her honor.

"What Rosa Parks did 70 years ago was to stand up and say, 'I, too, am a part of America. I don't have to sit in the back,'" Glover said.

Mayor Tom Arceneaux added, "The sitting down of Rosa Parks may be the seat heard round the world instead of the shot heard round the world. I'm pleased to celebrate this day with the people most affected by her heroism and courage."
