PEORIA ( 25News Now ) - Experts at the Peoria County Animal Protection Services are stressing the importance of keeping pets inside as much as possible during the colder months of the year.
Alex Menke, the shelter manager at PCAPS, said that when it comes to taking pets outside, bathroom breaks are fine, but it is best to limit pets’ time spent playing or walking outside.
She also said that it is important to monitor pets’ preferences for cold, especially for dogs. Some animals might want to spend more time in the cold than others, she said. This is due to the length of the pets’ coats.
For example, a husky with a thick coat may want to spend more time in the snow than a pit bull with a shorter coat.
