NORMAL ( 25News Now ) - Soon after East Peoria’s emergency alert system was hacked , an app used by the town of Normal was also breached.
Notify Normal, also known as CodeRED, managed by a firm called Crisis24, notified residents of emergencies and events in the area. Town Director of Communications and Community Relations Cathy Oloffson said they were notified of the data breach in late November.
She said data like names, addresses, emails, phone numbers, and associated passwords were leaked.
“The town of Normal has a population of about 54,000,” Oloffson said. “We had 2,300 subscribers at the end of October.”
Oloffson said they are currently working on finding a new app provider.
“The town of Normal has little to no control over stopping this from happening again,” Oloffson said
