SPRINGFIELD, MA (WGGB/WSHM) - Just before 6:30 p.m. on Friday, the Springfield Police Department responded to a report of a car striking a pedestrian in the area of State and Federal Streets.

The female pedestrian was taken to Baystate Medical Center where she later died from her injuries. The driver was confirmed to have fled the scene.

The cause of the crash is currently under investigation.
