An elementary school teacher from Macomb County was placed on paid leave Friday after school officials learned he had been charged with attempting to import child pornography in Vermont.

Martin Daryl Waskowski, 38, of Royal Oak, was named in a criminal complaint charging him with knowingly possessing child pornography and attempted to import child pornography into the United States from Canada.

Waskowski has been employed as a teacher for Eastpointe Community Schools, where he had been assigned to Pleasantview Elementary School.

School leaders sent out a letter to parents on Friday, saying they had been notified earlier in the day by Michigan State Police and the Department of Homeland Security about the Dec. 3 arrest.
