MINNEAPOLIS — If you're a Minneapolis homeowner who feels snowed under by property tax increases in the past few years, you're not alone.

"I know a member of the Board of Estimate and Taxation who moved out of their house in part because of the property tax burden and became a renter," said Steve Brandt, President of the Minneapolis Board of Estimate and Taxation.

Brandt says Minneapolis already ranks highest among 10 peer cities for its percentage of tax income that comes from property taxes. According to a recent report , property taxes make up 48% of city revenue this year, and that is set to increase to 57% of revenue within six years.
