Police identified a man hit and killed by a vehicle on Highway 31 in Decatur Friday evening.

Decatur Police say Edward James Pointer, 71, was walking on the roadway shortly after 5 p.m. on Highway 31 near Deer Springs Road when he was struck by a vehicle. Police say Pointer died from his injuries at the scene.

An investigation into the wreck is ongoing at this time.
