COLUMBUS, Ohio — Gov. Mike DeWine announced this week that the state will distribute $5 million among five hospitals and research organizations for pediatric cancer studies.
The funding was established in the state’s 2026-2027 biennial budget and will support research aimed at improving detection and treatment of childhood cancers.
“Pediatric cancer research is vital to improve survival rates and understand the unique biology of childhood cancers,” DeWine said.
The grant will fund work at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center, the Cleveland Clinic, Dayton Children’s Hospital, Maple Tree Cancer Alliance and the Research Institute at Nationwide Children’s Hospital.
More than 80% of Ohio children diagnosed with cancer now survive, up from about 20% in the 1970s, according to Dr. B
