Being born and raised in Northwest Ohio is a far cry from the broader political spectrum around major metropolitan areas. So, I’m glad to hear that Ohio is requiring college students to take at least one civics class starting in 2029.

Professor Richard Perloff makes so many valid points in his Nov. 30 guest column (“ Why college civics requirements are urgently needed “), but the one that caught my attention was that society needs to understand civics in order to speak rationally, and calmly, with our family, friends, and acquaintances.
