Rush Propst is a state champion in Alabama once again.
Coosa Christian scored twice in the final minutes to beat Lanett 29-22 on Friday night in the AHSAA Super 7 Class 2A finals at Protective Stadium, winning the school’s first state title and Propst’s first in Alabama in two decades.
The victory capped a 13-2 season and a 13-game winning streak for Coosa Christian, which trailed 22-14 after Lanett’s Nadarious Morgan broke loose for a 67-yard touchdown run with 5:30 left in the fourth quarter. Propst described his outlook in the moment as "bleak."
However, with less than four minutes on the clock, QB Kylen Johnson drove Coosa Christian 55 yards in six plays, scoring on a 4-yard run, then hitting LJ Mostella for a 2-point pass to tie it at 22.
