NORTH RIDGEVILLE, Ohio (WOIO) - The city is moving forward with safety improvements at the intersection near where a 16-year-old was struck and killed last month.

Violet Gustafson died Nov. 17 after being hit by a car on Lorain Road at Lear Nagle Road. The teen worked at McDonald’s and was returning from a break and a Starbucks run across the street when the accident occurred.

North Ridgeville Mayor Kevin Corcoran said city leaders immediately began working on safety measures after the tragic accident.

“Just this week we talked to First Energy and our traffic engineers, and we authorized both of them to move forward with the next steps in the process,” Corcoran said.

Lighting and crosswalk improvements planned

FirstEnergy will install improved lighting as part of the safety upgrades.
