Penn State’s football program pulled off an impressive “double”.

In addition to hiring Matt Campbell as the Nittany Lions’ permanent head coach replacing James Franklin, PSU has also retained interim head coach Terry Smith to be a member of Campbell’s staff.

Penn State athletics put out a statement from athletic director Pat Kraft late Friday night on Campbell becoming the program’s new head coach.

Campbell spent the last 10 seasons at Iowa State.

PSU also was able to keep Smith, a former PSU captain who served as the Lions’ interim head coach for six games after Kraft fired Franklin on Oct. 12.

Smith began the season as Penn State’s cornerbacks’ coach.
