JENA, La. (KALB) - For the first time in program history, the Jena Giants are headed to the State Championship Game.
Jena defeated Union Parish 30-6 on Friday night in the Division III Non-Select Semifinals, snapping a two-year streak of losing in the semifinals.
Daniel Hatcher ran for a touchdown on the opening drive, and senior Sedrick Wilson doubled the lead on a score in the first quarter.
After the Farmers cut the lead to eight, Deuce McPherson connected with Adrian Sharp on a long pass to set up the Giants in goal-to-go, where Wilson ran for his second touchdown.
Jena’s defense held strong all game long, including a pivotal sack from Brian Evans.
Jena will face the Sterlington Panthers next Friday at 3:30 p.m. inside Caesars Superdome in New Orleans.
