Facing North Texas’ previously unstoppable, FBS-leading offense on Friday night, Tulane turned the Mean Green a little green with envy.

It was a dominant performance for three quarters, and by the time North Texas responded, it was too late to change the result.

Making up for back-to-back American championship game losses, the Green Wave punched its ticket to the College Football Playoff, dealing a near knockout blow in the first half of the American Conference championship game and winning 34-21 at Yulman Stadium. After spotting North Texas a 7-0 lead on a 15-play, 75-yard opening drive, Tulane hit back with a season-high-tying drive of 16 plays and kept throwing haymakers from there.

When the onslaught was over, the Wave led 31-7 late in the third quarter.
