Coming off a state championship that featured nearly an entire offense full of seniors, no one legitimately gave Shaw a chance to make it back to the Caesars Superdome for a chance to defend its Division II select title.

And we mean no one outside of those wearing green and white on the streets of Marrero. Even some of them didn’t believe.

What those people forgot about was that the state championship defense remained mostly intact, which meant everything on the road Friday night in the state semifinals.

On a cold and rainy night at Buddy Marcello Stadium, the No. 7 Eagles stuffed No. 6 Vandebilt Catholic 27-0 to advance. The victory marks the first time in Hank Tierney’s 40-plus years of coaching he will man the sidelines in the Superdome in back-to-back seasons.
