The Bomb Squad, Hazardous Materials Unit and detectives responded, seizing a large quantity of illegal explosives
A 17-year-old boy died after a cache of illegal pyrotechnics exploded inside a South Los Angeles residence, prompting a major post-blast investigation by the Los Angeles Police Department, authorities said.
Police were called around 9:26 p.m. on Dec. 3 to the 400 block of West 84th Street after reports that a male was on fire, the LAPD said. Officers found the teen critically injured following an explosion that occurred while someone at the home was handling pyrotechnic materials.
The Los Angeles Fire Department transported the boy to a hospital, where he later died from his injuries, officials said.
