President Donald Trump has again stated that the revenue accrued and investments secured from his trade policies could eliminate the need for income taxes , but economists consider this impossible even under the rosiest financial assumptions.

During a Cabinet meeting on Tuesday, Trump said his administration would be able to distribute a “dividend ,” while also reducing debts and eliminating Americans’ primary tax burden thanks to the customs duties.

“I believe that at some point in the not-too-distant future, you won't even have income tax to pay because the money we're taking in is so great,” the president said.
