Mike Tindall and the England rugby team were returning from Australia in 2003 after winning the World Cup
Mike Tindall once came close to smashing David Boon's legendary 52-beer record during a flight home from the 2003 Rugby World Cup final. Boon established his landmark beer milestone whilst travelling to the UK for the 1989 Ashes summer series against England - a tour Australia dominated emphatically.
Meanwhile, Tindall had just beaten Australia 20-17 in the World Cup final and was returning to Heathrow with his teammates. The future Royal son-in-law attempted this remarkable challenge before his marriage to Princess Anne's daughter Zara - though this was indeed the year they first met each other.
Tindall supposedly consumed 'close to 50' cans of beer during the journey
