One hundred years ago in the forest near Mormon Lake, unknown laborers built a camp to live in as they felled the area’s trees on behalf of the Flagstaff Lumber Company. When the work was done, they moved on, leaving the remnants of their camp behind.

Forty-five years ago, archaeologists for the Coconino National Forest happened upon the remains of the camp while surveying the area and realized it was different from other logging camps in the region.
