Oh, big strong men of ICE with your weapons, dressed in combat tactical gear — what do you fear?

Since June 2025 the ICE facility in Portland off South Bancroft St. has been a flashpoint for aggressive government actions against its citizens contrasted with mostly nonviolent protest or “tactical frivolity” as described by Portland resident Vincent Hawkins. The Trump administration’s efforts to militarize law enforcement across the country are being met by brave citizens exercising their rights to assemble, dissent, protest and perhaps most critically their right to inflate. The effort by Portland’s citizens has been dubbed the Portland Frog Brigade or “operation inflation.” It has been called the “bravest form of whimsy.”
