Less than an hour after voting to reject a controversial 50-unit tiny homes project in Penticton’s industrial park, Penticton council threw its full support behind a massive affordable housing development that will bring more than 600 apartment units -- the majority rented below market rates -- to the city’s south end.

The megaproject, called the Skaha Lake Road Assembly by city staff, will be built on land that once housed five local motels purchased by B.C. Housing over the past dozen years. Three of the motels have already been demolished, with the remaining two scheduled for demolition soon. The project site is located on Skaha Lake Road near Green Avenue.
