Bela Vegetarian and Vegan Restaurant, a Northampton standard-bearer, will close on Dec. 27, according to the restaurant’s website .

Lily Olpindo, owner and cook, who opened the restaurant on Oct. 21, 1991, is retiring.

“We have BIG news to share with you,” a Facebook post signed by Lily and Carol reads. “Lily is RETIRING! ... Our hearts are filled with so many emotions as we share this news. We’re looking forward to this exciting new chapter in our lives. We will MISS YOU!”

The restaurant offers a menu rooted in 1960s and 1970s vegetarianism. It made MassLive’s list of the T op 10 vegetarian and vegan restaurants in Northampton in 2014.
