EAST BOSTON, Mass. —

Bitter cold settled across Massachusetts on Friday as wind chills dipped near and below zero, marking the coldest air since last winter, according to StormTeam 5 Chief Meteorologist Cindy Fitzgibbon.

Fitzgibbon said in her forecast that bright sunshine would be misleading because temperatures started in the teens around Boston and fell into the single digits and below zero north and west of the city, according to her report.

“This is the coldest air that we have had around here since February,” Fitzgibbon said.
