Aston Villa closed the gap to league leaders Arsenal to just three points after Emi Buendia secured a ninth successive home win with the last kick of the game.
Matty Cash opened the scoring 10 minutes before half-time, firing in from Pau Torres' cross, but Leandro Trossard equalised early in the second half.
Buendia, who came off the bench in the second half, sent Villa Park into raptures by slotting the ball past David Raya after a scramble in the box.
The victory extends Villa’s home winning streak to nine matches, and they have now won 13 of their last 15 games since drawing at Sunderland back in September.
Villa produced the first big opportunity of the game after Emi Martinez made a comfortable save to deny Arsenal captain Martin Ødegaard.
