For the first time in 18 years, UNC basketball is set to play Georgetown.
Ranked No. 17 in the USA TODAY Sports coaches poll and 16th in the AP Top 25, the Tar Heels (7-1) will host the Hoyas (6-2) on Sunday, Dec. 7 (5 p.m., ESPN ), at the Smith Center.
It’s the first meeting between the programs in Chapel Hill since Georgetown’s win in 2003. UNC has lost back-to-back games against the Hoyas, including an Elite Eight matchup in the 2007 NCAA Tournament. Overall, the Heels have a 4-5 record in the all-time series.
Through eight games, UNC has top-25 wins against Kansas and Kentucky, and Georgetown has beaten Maryland and Clemson. It doesn’t count, but the Hoyas also got a preseason exhibition win against the Wildcats at Rupp Arena.
