NASA astronaut Jonny Kim captured breathtaking footage of the aurora from 260 miles above Earth aboard the International Space Station. The time-lapse shows the Sun dipping behind the horizon as brilliant curtains of green and red aurora ripple across the atmosphere, with city lights glowing below. Kim says the display followed a major solar particle event that created “beautiful blankets of aurora,” giving astronauts one of the most spectacular views from orbit.
