LAREDO, Tex. (KGNS) - A woman was arrested after a pitbull was found malnourished in a filthy cage at a Laredo apartment.

At about 11:40 a.m. Monday, Dec. 1, a Laredo police officer responded to an apartment in the 300 block of West Hillside Road. A man said that his ex-girlfriend, 25-year-old Cassandra Lisbeth Martinez, was supposed to take care of his pitbull.

Inside the apartment, the officer found the dog inside a small cage with wet and dry urine, feces, no food, no water, and old bitten cucumbers. The dog also appeared to be malnourished.

When asked why the dog was inside a cage, Martinez said that the pitbull would ruin the walls.

Martinez was arrested and charged with cruelty to non-livestock animals, a Class A misdemeanor.
