NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - As of Dec. 4, data from the New Orleans City Council crime dashboard showed there were 105 murders in the city. That figure represents a 6% drop compared to the same time last year, but when compared to 2022, when the city had 243 homicides, the murder rate has dropped more than 56%. Jeff Asher has been compiling crime data through November and says the city may reach a historic low not seen in decades.

“Even including the tragedy of Jan. 1 on Bourbon Street, New Orleans is on pace through November to have the fewest murders since 1970,” Asher said.
