INDIANAPOLIS (WNDU) - The second-ranked Indiana Hoosiers are outright Big Ten champions for the first time in 80 years after outlasting No. 1 Ohio State 13-10 in the Big Ten championship game on Saturday night.
In their first ever appearance in the Big Ten title game, the Hoosiers (13-0) held the defending national champion Buckeyes (12-1) scoreless in the second half to win their first outright Big Ten title since 1945.
Ohio State missed a game-tying field goal in the final minute.
Indiana is expected to earn the overall No. 1 seed when the final College Football Playoff bracket is announced Sunday afternoon.
Many experts also think the win likely locks up the Heisman Trophy for IU quarterback Fernando Mendoza. Finalists for the award will be announced Monday evening.
