GRANITE CITY, Illinois — A 26-year-old Granite City man accused of shooting a police officer Friday afternoon was taken into custody early Saturday after an all-night manhunt involving local, state and federal law enforcement agencies, Illinois State Police said.
The suspect was apprehended at about 3 a.m. Saturday and is being held at the Madison County jail pending charges, state police said. The investigation remains ongoing.
The officer shooting occurred at about 2:19 p.m. Friday in the 2000 block of Johnson Road, Illinois State Police said. Granite City police officers responded to a disturbance call and encountered the suspect, who pulled out a firearm and fired several shots, striking one officer before fleeing on foot.
