NEW YORK- New York State Police reported a busy Thanksgiving holiday weekend, issuing 13,036 tickets during this year’s statewide traffic enforcement campaign. The effort ran from Wednesday, November 26 through Sunday, November 30, and was funded by the Governor’s Traffic Safety Committee.
Throughout the five-day period, troopers conducted sobriety checkpoints, added extra DWI patrols, and targeted drivers using handheld electronic devices. In total, 247 people were arrested for driving while intoxicated. Troopers also investigated 1,277 crashes, including two that were fatal.
Speeding and aggressive driving remained major focuses of the campaign. Troopers issued 4,454 speeding tickets, 278 for distracted driving, 1,108 seatbelt violations, and 243 for failure to follow the Move Over
