Two vehicles were heavily damaged and two people were hospitalized, late Satuday morning, Dec. 6, after a collision at the intersection of U.S. 33 and Lewis Street. According to police, a 2009 Ford Fusion driven by a 40-year-old male from Elkhart was traveling southeast on U.S. 33 when it entered the intersection and failed to obey the traffic signal. At the same time, a 2001 Toyota Camry driven by a 35-year-old female from Elkhart was turning left from Lewis Street with a green light and the right-of-way. Investigators say the Camry driver attempted to avoid the crash, but the Ford struck the front end of the Toyota. Both vehicles sustained heavy front-end damage.
