PORTLAND, Ore. — One person was taken to a hospital in critical condition after an explosion and fire at an apartment building in the Centennial neighborhood Sunday morning.
Portland Fire & Rescue crews responded to heavy fire and multiple explosions at the building on Southeast 162nd Avenue near Clay Street just after 10:15 a.m.
"The first reporting crews saying that there was heavy fire showing upon their arrival with a couple of folks that had jumped from the second floor, which appears to be possibly the origin of the fire," Portland Fire and Rescue Public Information Officer Christine Pezzulo said to KGW.
More than 60 firefighters responded to the scene. One person was transported to Legacy Emmanuel Hospital in critical condition, Pezzulo said.
