SARASOTA, Fla. ( WWSB ) - On National Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day, Americans honor the 2,403 people killed and more than 1,178 injured when Japanese forces launched a surprise attack on Pearl Harbor on Dec. 7, 1941, the assault sank two U.S. battleships, destroyed 188 aircraft and drew the United States into World War II the following day.
Each year, survivors, veterans and visitors from across the country gather at memorials to reflect on the lives lost and the enduring impact of the attack.
