PEORIA ( 25News Now ) - A trio of suspects, ages 14 and 15, are being held in the Peoria County Juvenile Detention Center for a series of crimes that started Saturday morning with the theft of a pickup truck and evolved into a pair of carjackings.

Peoria Police said the crime spree started about 8:15 a.m. when five juveniles stole a 2024 GMC Sierra with a snowplow attachment.

Officers said the young suspects ran in different directions after police stopped the vehicle on Knoxville Avenue, near Pioneer Parkway.

Police said two of the boys, one of them with a gun, ran up to the CEFCU ATM at Northpoint Shopping Center, where they jumped into an occupied black Genesis, sat on the lap of the driver, and crashed into a support post in the parking lot.
