Nickel Belt MPP France Gelinas was among several speakers who honoured former Sudbury MPP and fellow NDPer Sharon Murdock at Queen’s Park this past week.

Murdock, who passed away in July, represented Sudbury during the years when the NDP formed the government in Ontario under Bob Rae, from 1990 to 1995.

“While in government, she introduced a bill to make the common loon Ontario’s official bird,” noted Gelinas in the legislature. “As well, she introduced a bill that granted Nipissing University its charter. She introduced a proxy job that could be used as a comparator for female jobs that did not have a similar occupation, to make sure that equal pay for equal work applied to every woman in Ontario.”
