PHOENIX (AZFamily) — If you’re worried about your pet putting on some extra pounds, especially during the holiday season, there may be a solution soon.

Researchers just launched a clinical study called MEOW-1 using GLP-1 weight loss drugs in cats.

How it works

Food often equals love when it comes to the human-animal bond.

“Food is a big part of American culture, and we extend that to our pets,” Dr. Courtney Deer, a traveling ER veterinarian, said.

Finding that balance can be a battle, especially when your pet isn’t a big fan of exercising.

“Up to 60% of our pets, our dog and cat companions, are overweight,” Deer said.
