BIRMINGHAM, Ala. —

The "Deeper Than Hate" rivalry is coming to the Magic City.

Rivals Georgia Southern and Appalachian State are set to face off at Protective Stadium in the 19th JLab Birmingham Bowl. The game is set for Dec. 29 at Protective, 1 p.m. kickoff.

These teams know each other well, Georgia Southern and App State have faced off 41 times in a series that dates back to 1932. App State leads the all-time series 22-18-1, though Georgia Southern won this season 25-23 on the road.

The Eagles come in 6-6 on the season, finishing fourth in the Sun Belt. While App State went 5-7 with sixth place finish in the Sun Belt.

It marks the first appearance for both schools in the Birmingham Bowl.
