COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KKTV) - An extremely fortunate driver was uninjured after his vehicle was hit by a train late Sunday night.
The collision happened near Conejos Street and Las Animas Street near downtown Colorado Springs. According to police, the driver ignored the designated railroad crossing at that intersection and instead was trying to drive across the tracks just south of it when he was hit.
“The BNSF Train crew saw the vehicle and started to slow,” a Colorado Springs police lieutenant said. “No one was injured in the crash.”
Afterward, the train remained at a stop for several hours while an inspection team with BNSF Railway examined the tracks and railroad crossing.
The driver was cited for the incident. Police have identified him as Brett Rupp.
