CANTON, Ohio — When Avon held its parade last year, celebrating the football program’s first state championship, the seniors got to ride in the back of trucks.

The underclassmen walked.

“It’s going to be the same this year because these guys get to love and enjoy this forever,” coach Mike Elder said Thursday night after Avon’s title repeat with a 37-20 win against Cincinnati Anderson. “They get to design their rings. They get to be state champs and walk out of Avon High School as two-time, back-to-back state champs. For the rest of those guys, in January, there will be a meeting and there will be work to be done.”
